Nestled between the Orcia Valley and Val di Chiana, Montepulciano is the quintessential Tuscan medieval village, boasting green landscapes of rolling hills, castle walls and ramparts, thermal springs and fine wines.
Try the local delicacies before you head to Orcia valley, an exceptional reflection of the way the landscape was rewritten in Renaissance times to reflect the ideals of good governance and to create an aesthetically pleasing picture.
The colonization of the landscape involved creating new settlements for farmers and their families and the most dramatic example of a planned new town is Pienza.
You will then drive across enchanting hills dotted with vineyards to Montalcino. This lovely medieval town owes its wealth and fame to the wisdom of his growers who have created and promoted one of the most famous Italian wines in the world: Brunello di Montalcino.
Besides several churches of great interest , among which the Cathedral (built in Neoclassical style), the church of St. Egidio, of St. Agostino and St. Francis with its beautiful cloisters, and the Priori Palace (with its beautiful facade ornated with the coats of arms of the Podesta, once rulers of the city), it is definitely the Fortress that catches immediately the attention of the tourist arriving in Montalcino.
This beautiful and imposing building, constructed in 1361 using part of the existing walls, has been wonderfully preserved and its interior can still be visited today. You will have time to stroll around the town and why not taste some local wine. At any time ask your driver to stop and take a picture if you are enjoying the views.

Montepulciano is a medieval and Renaissance hill town and comune in the Italian province of Siena in southern Tuscany. Montepulciano is a major producer of food and drink. Renowned for its pork, cheese, "pici" pasta, lentils, and honey, it is known world-wide for its wine. Connoisseurs consider its Vino Nobile, which should not be confused with varietal wine merely made from the Montepulciano grape, among Italy's best.

Pienza, a town and comune in the province of Siena, in the Val d'Orcia in Tuscany, is the "touchstone of Renaissance urbanism." In 1996, UNESCO declared the town a World Heritage Site, and in 2004 the entire valley, the Val d'Orcia, was included on the list of UNESCO's World Cultural Landscapes.

Brunello di Montalcino is a red Italian wine produced in the vineyards surrounding the town of Montalcino located about 120 km south of Florence in the Tuscany wine region. Brunello, a diminutive of bruno, which means brown, is the name that was given locally to what was believed to be an individual grape variety grown in Montalcino. In 1879 the Province of Siena's Amphelographic Commission determined, after a few years of controlled experiments, that Sangiovese and Brunello were the same grape variety, and that the former should be its designated name.
